ILTACON 2026 Recap: Three Themes from Our Conversations

How law firms are thinking about the attorney experience, AI readiness, and practical security implementation.

ILTACON 2026 gave the Cornerstone.IT team time to reconnect with clients and partners, meet new people, and hear directly about the technology decisions law firms are working through.

Across conversations about managed services, cybersecurity, document management, AI, infrastructure, and identity, one practical question kept surfacing: How can firms move forward without making work harder for attorneys and staff?

That question connects many of the issues discussed in Nashville. New tools can create opportunities, but their value depends on how well they fit the firm’s security requirements, information environment, workflows, and support model.

How can firms move forward without making work harder for attorneys and staff?

Here are three themes our team brought home from ILTACON 2026.

Theme 01

New technology still has to work for attorneys

Theme 02

AI readiness starts with governed information

Theme 03

Stronger security must remain usable

Theme 01

New technology still has to work for attorneys

Law firms continue to evaluate new platforms, security controls, cloud services, and AI capabilities. But a sound technical decision can still fall short if it interrupts daily work or creates a new support burden.

That tension came up in many of our conversations at Booth #654. Firms are weighing the need to modernize against the need to keep attorneys productive. They want technology that is dependable, supported by people who understand legal workflows, and introduced with careful attention to the user experience.

This is central to how we think about Exceptional Managed Services and the Extraordinary Attorney Experience. The measure of a technology decision is not only whether the system works. It is also whether attorneys and staff can use it consistently, securely, and with as little disruption as possible.

Theme 02

AI readiness starts with reliable, governed information

AI remained a major topic at ILTACON, but the conversations our team joined were grounded in practical questions. Firms are considering where AI fits into existing workflows, how information will be protected, where human review is required, and which uses can produce meaningful value.

Those questions quickly lead back to the information a firm already holds. AI tools cannot compensate for information that is difficult to find, inconsistently organized, poorly governed, or available to the wrong people. Document and knowledge management therefore remain part of the AI conversation, not separate from it.

Our discussions with iManage and others reinforced the connection between trusted information and responsible AI adoption. For firms, the work is broader than selecting a tool. It includes security, governance, access, integration, and the support people need to use the technology appropriately.

Theme 03

Stronger security cannot come at the expense of usability

A Microsoft session on passwordless authentication prompted useful discussion within our team about passkeys and Windows Hello for Business. Moving away from traditional passwords may offer benefits, but the practical effects matter as much as the underlying technology.

For a law firm, an authentication change touches security policy, device readiness, application compatibility, enrollment, recovery, training, and support. A control that is difficult to use or recover can create friction and encourage workarounds. A well-planned implementation has to account for the people relying on it throughout the day.

We will continue evaluating how passwordless approaches are developing and what firms should consider before adopting them. The goal is not change for its own sake. It is a stronger security model that works in the environment it is meant to protect.

Relationships that moved the conversation forward

ILTACON also gave us an opportunity to spend time with the clients, partners, peers, and new contacts who help shape our work.

We were pleased to be at Booth #654 alongside Arctic Wolf, continuing conversations about how cybersecurity and managed services can support a more coordinated approach for law firms.

Our long-standing relationship with iManage was another important part of the week. We co-hosted our annual ILTACON dinner, bringing clients, partners, colleagues, and friends together away from the conference floor. Those conversations gave us time to listen, compare priorities, and strengthen relationships that continue throughout the year.

Former Major League Baseball pitcher Jim Abbott opened the conference with a keynote about creativity, accountability, and trust. His message was a useful reminder that technology change is also a leadership challenge. Tools and plans matter, but progress depends on how people respond, adapt, and work together.

What comes next

The themes we heard at ILTACON were closely connected. AI depends on trusted information. Stronger security depends on practical implementation. New technology has to support the attorneys and staff expected to use it.

Our team returned from Nashville with questions to explore, relationships to continue, and several topics we plan to examine more closely. Passwordless authentication, AI readiness, information governance, and the connection between cybersecurity and managed services will remain part of those conversations.

Thank you to everyone who visited Booth #654, joined us for dinner, or took time to share what your firm is working through. Those discussions help us focus on the technology decisions that matter in the daily work of a law firm.

Technology decisions should support the way a law firm works.
